Welcome back to another edition of Savvy Business Saturday. Today I get to interview an extremely talented and amazing human being, Geoff Bourrie, the owner and artist behind Jurassic Ink Tattoo Shop located in Drumheller, Ab. Can’t wait for you to meet him so let’s get started.
1.) Tell us a little about yourself, the why and when you became a tattoo artist?
G.) I have always had a keen eye for art and found myself exploring many different styles of artistry from a very young age. Pencil, pen ,crayons, paint and even clay. As I became older, I was drawn to imagery that was permanent on skin. I began creating my own designs and started designing tattoos for friends and family. After putting a good solid portfolio of artwork together, I was fortunate enough to be given an apprenticeship in 2001.

2.) How many tattoos do you have?
G.) About 160 hours under the needle.
3.) What is the favorite tattoo on your body and why?
G.) To many favorites to choose from. I have an old band tattoo on my leg that I love because of the memories it brings to me.
4.) Who or what influences your work?
G.) I am heavily influenced by music and emotion. I also am constantly learning from many of my peers and industry friends, which keeps me a very diverse artist.

5.) When you’re not tattooing, what do you like to get up to?
G.) I try to see as much live music as I can. Also I am a big sports fanatic, so watching live sporting events both in person and televised.
6.) Who is your favorite tattoo artist of all time?
G.) That is a tough question. I respect the work of so many artists. I was always drawn to Bob Tyrell’s art.
7.) What has been your favorite moment in your career so far?
G.) There are many. Most moments would not have had the opportunity to happen without the opening of Jurassic Ink Tattoo in Drumheller in 2004.

8.) What’s the best part about being a tattoo artist?
G.) Meeting so many different people with each one having a unique story for their personal skin art.

9.) If you could describe your work with one word, what would it be?
G.) Compassionate
10.) Besides being a successful and amazing tattoo artist, you also organize a festival every year here in Drumheller, tell us about that?
G.) Thank you for the positive comment. For the last 10 years, myself and a great team have been organizing what is now Alberta’s largest heavy metal festival. It is called the Loud as Hell Festival and takes place here in Drumheller on the August long weekend each year. The festival includes over 40 bands, onsite camping, vendors and much more. Check it out at http://www.loudashell.ca

11.) Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
G.) I honestly do not know. Likely still here in Drumheller keeping the valley beautiful and full of color.
12.) Thank you for joining me, Is there anything you’d like to add before we wrap up and don’t forget to give me all your socials so we know where to find you?
G.) Thank you for having me, I appreciate you and all that you do Sarah. Cheers
